PV Equipment Manufacturer Expands Production for Largest Size Solar Panels Made in America

Lake Mary, FL., May 9, 2012– Advanced Solar Photonics, LLC (ASP), a leading provider of full turnkey PV product solutions and manufacturer of crystalline photovoltaic modules, grid-tied inverters, and mounting systems, today announced that it has expanded production of its 400 Watt monocrystalline solar panels manufactured in Florida.

The capacity expansion includes an enhanced production line that features a combined tabbing and stringing machine and the use of robotics to reduce the handling time for solar cells. The process has the latest vision alignment system and non-contact induction soldering to ensure a flawless process. On the line, a string to glass layup system is matched to a stringer machine. An integrated optical monitoring function for cell and string defects helps to reduce any machine downtimes.

In addition, the line features a high capacity Meier laminator that encapsulates up to four 96 cell laminates at one time. ASP will be securing an additional high capacity laminator in the third quarter of 2012. The company’s production capacity for 2012 is now 100 MW.

The ASP 400 Watt series is a higher efficiency PV module with 96 monocrystalline cells. In utility scale applications using 400 Watt modules, a project would require less modules, less connectors, less racking, less copper ground wire, and less weeb lugs –all in a smaller footprint. Reduced materials allows for less shipping, less labor and less cost.

Advanced Laminating Film Product Will Be Used in High Efficiency PV Modules Made in America

Bristol, Pa., April 3, 2012 – DUNMORE Corporation is providing solar module backsheets to Advanced Solar Photonics (ASP) – one of the largest manufacturers of crystalline silicon PV modules in the U.S. with 100 megawatts (MW) of production capacity in 2012.

DUNMORE backsheets will insulate and protect the circuitry of modules manufactured by ASP which will be applied to solar power projects throughout North America including the first 40 MW phase of the Sorrento Solar Farm project in Lake County, Florida.

Advanced Solar Photonics chose DUNMORE because DUNMORE can produce variable widths of backsheets. DUNMORE’s programs, like SmoothStart, also contributed to ASP’s decision because they made it easier for ASP to determine that DUNMORE backsheets meet requirements and to get them into production quickly.

DUNMORE backsheets provide high performance and long-term durability. They protect solar module circuitry from the elements, protect workers from electrical current, and prevent current from “leaking” from modules and eroding their productivity.

“Long-term PV module performance is a critical ingredient of a solar power plant’s success,” said Lawrence Hefler, spokesperson for ASP. “We made DUNMORE our source for backsheets because the company has a well-established reputation for providing quality and top performance.”

Advanced Solar Photonics is an American manufacturing and research and development center for crystalline silicon solar photovoltaic (PV) panels for utility, commercial and residential applications. Based on the latest cell efficiency, light transmission, and encapsulation technologies, ASP focuses on high-efficiency, state-of-the-art solar PV modules ranging from 200 Watts to 400 Watts.

“DUNMORE backsheets are designed to help companies like ASP get 20, 25 or 30 years of reliable performance out of their solar modules. Those are the numbers that the solar industry needs to hit to develop into an economically realistic alternative to fossil fuels,” said DUNMORE Vice President John Jordon.

BlackStar™ 400 Series Modules Pair Up with Solar FlexRack System

Lake Mary, FL., June 30, 2011 – Advanced Solar Photonics, LLC (ASP), a leading manufacturer of crystalline silicon PV modules and mounting systems for utility, commercial and residential applications, today announced that its BlackStar™ 400 Series modules are being installed at the 1.1 megawatt (MW) Eagle Springs Solar Farm in Colorado.

The project features the pairing of ASP’s BlackStar™ 400 Series modules with the Solar FlexRack system. The ASP BlackStar™ 400 Series modules selected for this project are 390 Watt monocrystalline photovoltaic (PV) modules are made in America and ideally suited for utility-scale projects.

Solar FlexRack’s premier racking solutions are custom engineered to withstand 40-pound snow loads and 100 mph winds. The partnership between the ASP modules and the FlexRack system affords the Eagle Springs project with an array that maximizes its footprint, providing the most power production per square foot currently available on the market today.

“During the planning stage of the Eagle Springs Solar Farm, seven designs were developed to compare various modules and racking systems before settling on a final design” said Aaron Garret, project manager for Eagle Springs. “PV truly is patriotic here at Eagle Springs, and we’re proud to announce our decision to choose all American-made solar products as we strive towards a sustainable lifestyle. The combination of the Solar FlexRack and ASP 390 Watt modules provides superior technology, performance and value compared to anything else on the market today.”

The Eagle Springs Solar Farm was designed to be a zero- to low-impact project; non-traditional techniques have been implemented in the field to keep the project fully sustainable. Above-ground conduits and wire management in addition to the prevention of the use of concrete promote environmentally-friendly practices. These considerations along with the combination of the powerful ASP modules and Solar FlexRack, which install in as little as three minutes with half the men of typical racking solutions, average a complete installation time of an astonishing 20 minutes. The Eagle Springs Solar Farm, when complete, will generate enough solar electricity to off-set the electricity consumption of Eagle Springs Organic Farm.

Solar FlexRack is a unique, pre-assembled, unfolding photovoltaic (PV) mounting system. The Solar FlexRack system simplifies wiring and installs in 3 minutes or less with a three-man crew, yielding significant savings in labor costs and cost-per-watt (as much as 40%) for any solar project. The FlexRack system is PE-certified for wind and snow loads, and is FIT-compliant.

Advanced Solar Photonics, LLC (ASP) is manufacturer and R&D (research and development) center of crystalline silicon solar photovoltaic (PV) modules and solar generators for utility, commercial and residential applications. Based on the latest cell efficiency, light transmission, and encapsulation technologies, ASP solar PV modules are among the most advanced and efficient industrial solar energy generating devices. ASP’s focus is high-power solar PV modules ranging from 200 Watts to 400 Watts.

Advanced Solar Photonics to Manufacture Solar Modules for Florida’s Largest Privately-Owned PV Solar Farm 40 MW PV Solar Farm to be constructed in Sorrento, Florida

Lake Mary, FL, June 21, 2011 – Advanced Solar Photonics, LLC (ASP) announced a strategic partnership with BlueChip Energy, LLC (BCE) to manufacture PV modules for the Sorrento Solar Farm on June 7, 2011. Located in Lake County, Florida, the 40 megawatt (MW) project recently received approval from local officials, making it the largest privately-owned solar farm in Florida and one of the largest in the United States. The strategic partnership will entitle ASP to manufacture the initial percentage, estimated at 75%, of the 40MW plant PV PV Modules for BCE. The remaining modules, estimated at 25%, will be reserved for any interested partners or investors who wish to participate in the Sorrento Solar Farm initiative.

The Sorrento Solar Farm project will generate an estimated 64 million kilowatt hours per year, displacing over 25,000 metrics tons of carbon dioxide annually – the equivalent of the annual electricity needs of roughly 8,000 typical Florida households.

ASP recently announced an increase in production capacity to 100 MW. With the increase in production capacity, ASP will create more than 50 additional manufacturing, operations, and business development jobs in Central Florida. The company plans to further expand production capacity to 250 MW in the next three years. The expansion will allow the company to meet the strong demand for its American-made and UL-certified BlackStar™ series 250 Watt and 390 Watt modules from US markets with a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) and other solar incentives, especially New Jersey, Colorado, California and Pennsylvania.

ASP’s production lines cover the complete PV module manufacturing process from start to finish. The additional production capacity will make ASP the third largest producer of crystalline silicon PV modules in the United States – and the only one in the State of Florida. ASP is also one of the few producers in the United States of Buy American Act compliant products suitable for government, military and municipal projects and meeting the requirements of Section 1605 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
